Scottsdale Guides

What to pack for a Scottsdale trip.

Scottsdale is sunny almost all year, but the packing list changes with the season. A summer trip needs a plan for the heat. A winter trip needs layers for cool evenings. This guide covers both, plus the gear most groups forget.

Back to the estate

Pack for the sun, every season

The desert sun is strong even in winter. Pack a wide-brim hat, sunglasses, sunscreen with a high rating, and a lip balm with sun protection. Bring a refillable water bottle for each person, because the dry air dehydrates people faster than they expect.

Summer: plan for the heat

From June through September, afternoons regularly pass 100°F. Pack light, loose clothes in natural fabrics, a swimsuit for each person, and sandals for the pool deck. Plan the active things for early morning, and keep a spare change of clothes in the car for afternoon outings.

Winter: layers for the evening

Winter days are warm enough for golf and hiking, but evenings cool down. January has average lows around 46°F and highs near 68°F (Phoenix normals). Bring a fleece or light jacket, long trousers for the evening, and a warm layer for an outdoor dinner. The pool can be heated on request, so swimwear is still worth packing.

Gear most groups forget

  • •Golf: clubs in a hard case, spikeless shoes if the course asks for them, and a glove. For courses and seasons, see the best time to golf in Scottsdale.
  • •Hiking: shoes with grip, a small first-aid kit, and extra water. Hike early, and see hiking near North Scottsdale.
  • •Pickleball: court shoes with a good grip. Ask whether paddles are provided before you pack yours.
  • •Documents: bring IDs, booking confirmations and a copy of the host’s contact details for everyone in the group.

A shared packing list for a group

Ask one person to make a shared list in a notes app. Each guest adds what they need, and the coordinator checks that the group is not carrying three of the same item. Groups travelling with children should also pack sun hats and a small first-aid kit for each adult.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear in Scottsdale in winter?

Light clothes for the day and a fleece or jacket for the evening. January lows sit in the mid-40s°F, so a warm layer is useful after dark.

How hot does Scottsdale get in summer?

Afternoons from June to September regularly pass 100°F. Plan outdoor activities for early morning and after sunset.

Do I need to bring golf clubs to Scottsdale?

If you want to golf on a course, bring your own clubs or check whether the courses you plan to play offer rentals. The house has a golf simulator, so you can practice without a tee time.
