Day Trips

A Grand Canyon day trip from Scottsdale.

Almost every first-time visitor to Scottsdale asks whether they can see the Grand Canyon on the same trip. The honest answer is yes, but it is a long day. Here is what the drive looks like, how to make a day trip work, and when splitting it with a night away is the better plan.

A day trip plan

  • •Leave very early: aim to be on the road before sunrise, with breakfast packed.
  • •Pick two or three viewpoints: with only a few hours at the rim, a short walk along the rim beats trying to see everything.
  • •Share the driving: nine or ten hours in the car is a lot for one driver.
  • •Plan dinner on the way back: or let the group rest and eat at the house when you get home.

Or make it an overnight

Spending one night near the park or in Flagstaff turns a long drive into two easier days, with time for sunset or sunrise at the rim. On the way back, stop in Sedona. See a Sedona day trip from Scottsdale and Sedona or Scottsdale.

Then come back to a quiet house. Paradise Reserve has six bedrooms for up to 16 guests, five of them king suites with their own bathroom, plus a pool and spa, a golf simulator, a putting green and a pickleball court. Events and parties are not permitted at the house, and quiet hours apply.
