Scottsdale vacation rentals by owner: what to check.

Booking directly can save on platform fees and gives you a real person to talk to. It also means you do the checks a platform would normally do for you. Before you pay anyone for a Scottsdale rental, these are the questions worth asking.

Your checklist

  • •City license: all Scottsdale properties offered for under 30 days need one. See Scottsdale vacation rental rules.
  • •Total price: nightly rate, cleaning, taxes and any other fees, in writing.
  • •Cancellation: what you get back, and by what date.
  • •Guest count: confirm the maximum and whether every bed is a real bed. See a rental for 12.
  • •House rules: quiet hours, visitors and parking.
  • •A contact: who you call if something breaks at 9pm.

Red flags

  • •Wire transfers: be wary of any request for a wire, gift cards or cryptocurrency.
  • •Pressure: a host who rushes you past the questions above.
  • •No paperwork: no written agreement or terms before you pay.
  • •Too good a price: well below similar homes on the same dates.
